Homemade holiday pop-tarts are a crowd pleaser in our house! They come together quickly and the fillings are totally customizable. The holidays are the perfect time to add a festive spin to this breakfast treat.
Ingredients for Homemade Holiday Pop-Tarts
Crust:
- 2-pack store-bought pie crust (I aspire to share a homemade, fool-proof pie crust with you at some point, but today is not the day!)
Brown Sugar Cinnamon Filling:
- 1/2cupbrown sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tbsp flour
Strawberry Jam Filling:
- 1/2 tsp corn starch
- 1/2 tsp cold water
- 1/2 cup strawberry jam
Icing:
- 1/4cupconfectioners sugar
- Splash of milk
Instructions for Homemade Holiday Pop-Tarts
Prepare the Dough
- Pull pie crust dough out of refrigerator 10 minutes prior to rolling (this helps to prevent the dough from tearing when you roll it out)
- Remove pie crust dough from packaging and unroll
- Using a rolling pin (we use a silicone rolling pin), roll pie crusts down to 1/8 inch
- Using cookie cutters (we have a fun holiday cookie cutter set) cut shapes out of both pie crusts
- Set one half on baking tray (we use a large, non-stick baking pan) to use as bottom pieces, and set aside one half to be used as top pieces
Filling
For Brown Sugar Cinnamon filling:
- Combine brown sugar, cinnamon, and flour together to make filling
For Strawberry Jam filling:
- Combine 1/2 tsp corn starch with 1/2 tsp cold water and stir to combine
- Combine 1/2 cup strawberry jam with corn starch mixture in a small saucepan
- Bring mixture to a boil and stir for 2 minutes, then remove saucepan from heat and allow to cool
For Both:
- Use a 1/4 tsp measuring spoon to put filling on the center of each of the bottom pie crust pieces (we love our magnetic measuring spoons!)
- Place the top pie crust pieces on top of the filled bottom pie crust pieces
- Crimp edges together using a fork
Baking
- Place assembled pop-tarts back in refrigerator while the oven preheats
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees
- Place pop-tarts in oven and bake for 10-12 minutes until crust is light golden brown
Icing
- Combine confectioners sugar and milk
- Stir until the icing mixture is slightly pourable (I mix directly in a glass measuring cup with a pourable spout)
- Add additional confectioners sugar and milk as needed
Decorating
- When pop-tarts are golden brown, remove from oven
- Allow to cool for 3-5 minutes before pouring icing over pop-tarts
- If you’re feeling festive, decorate with sprinkles!
- Enjoy homemade holiday pop-tarts!

Homemade Holiday Pop-Tarts
« New Holiday Books for Kids
A Room for 3 Girls! »
Hi, my name is Tyler Moore. My wife and I live with our three young daughters in a 700- square-foot apartment in New York City. I began my tidying journey when an early-30’s crisis invited me to reflect upon, challenge, and change my patterns of daily living. I quit my job as a school administrator, returned to teaching, and started Tidy Dad to help others tidy, simplify, and find joy in their lives. I firmly believe the tidying process can transform your life. I’d love for you to join me in exploring ways that tidying can make room for what’s important in life.
